    The Howe Community High School football team's equipment barn burned Monday morning in what school officials believe was arson.

    The team lost all its field equipment, such as tackling dummies, yard markers and chains, in the blaze.

    A SCHOOLBOY has been charged with attempting to steal a fire engine after crews were ambushed by a gang of youths as they battled a blaze in Edinburgh.

    The 15-year-old is accused of jumping into the appliance and revving the engine in a bid to drive off, while up to 30 others - some as young as five - ran riot and pelted the crews with eggs.

    BOULDER, Colo. --

    A wind-whipped wildfire sent flames roaring through a rugged canyon in the Colorado foothills, forcing about 3,000 people to flee the area and destroying dozens of homes - some that belonged to the firefighters themselves, authorities said Tuesday.

    Fire officials were assessing the extent of the damage and planned to release details at a morning news conference.

    Fire officials say one firefighter was hospitalized after battling a fire at a six-story condo building near Oakland Cemetery on Tuesday morning.

    Officials told Channel 2 Action News reporter Mike Petchenik at the scene that firefighters were dispatched to the Oakland Park Condos at about 5 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building, officials said.

    PORTSMOUTH, Va. -- A two-alarm fire damaged a warehouse and sent one firefighter to a hospital this morning.

    The fire was reported to dispatchers shortly after midnight at Chesapeake Service Systems in the 700 block of 7th St., they said.

    No one was inside the warehouse when the fire began, WVEC-TV was reporting this morning.

    One firefighter who suffered minor injuries was taken to a hospital and another was treated at the scene, the station reported.
